SFTP file transfers

Source-based guide · check your package and available controls.

Scope and prerequisites

Use a package containing SFTP and an account with permission to read or write the intended remote folder. Some proxy combinations are deliberately unavailable. Package-level verification remains pending; follow the available controls in your build.

Browse files

  1. Right-click the saved session and choose Open SFTP File Browser.
  2. Confirm the connection and check the local and remote paths separately. Local selection does not change the remote location.
  3. Browse each side or enter a valid path. Clear filters if an expected file is hidden.

Transfer a small test file

  1. Choose a harmless local notes.txt and an authorized remote test folder.
  2. Select Upload to send local to remote. Check both paths before confirming any overwrite.
  3. Follow the task progress. To stop, use Cancel; cancellation is not completion and may leave a partial file.
  4. When the task completes, refresh the destination and check the filename and size.
  5. Download that file to a different local folder and compare its contents. For integrity-sensitive work, compare hashes using a suitable tool on each side.

Judge the result

An idle queue or “No active transfer” is not evidence of a successful transfer. Confirm the individual task state and the resulting file. Remote deletion may not be recoverable through your local recycle bin.

Command mode and problems

Open SFTP Connection or the browser’s Terminal entry where available. The sftp> prompt is an SFTP interpreter, not a remote shell. Start with help, pwd and lpwd; use the syntax shown by this build rather than assuming every system SFTP command is supported. For permission errors, check authorized paths and free space. Do not bypass disabled proxy combinations.
